About
My general research interests center on discovering the largely unknown world of Ottoman thought, that is, the knowledge cultures of all of the empire's inhabitants. I tackle this challenge using the the questions and approaches of history of science and knowledge which have been the most successful at exploring the knowledge and epistemologies of the past.
My doctoral research attempts to uncover the intellectual debates of the late seventeenth century through the prism of travel. I also have connected side interests in antiquarianism, the revival of classical antiquity, conceptions of naturalism, and the history of botany in the Ottoman world.
