About

I am an independent historian with a research affiliation with the UCLA Center for the Study of Women.  My research has primarily focused on African women's history and the history of Mozambique.  I am also interested in Lusophone history and culture more broadly.

I am an editor for h-luso-africa, a listserve focused on the Portuguese-speaking African countries --

Recently I have also been working on a project about my great-aunt Sylvia Thankful Eddy, who served for many years as a nurse missionary in Turkey.  I have a diary she kept when she first arrived in 1919-1920.
