About
During the 2010-2011 academic year, I will be completing chapters of my dissertation on Charpentier's David et Jonathas while doing research abroad as a recipient of a UCLA Dean's Fellowship. My specializations are in seventeenth-century opera and theater music, mostly of France, partially of Italy, as well as their interconnections. My secondary interest is in the study of sexual expression in music of the early modern period and of "queer"alternative sexual sensibilities and expression in Anglo-American rock (especially folk rock and experimental/psychedelic rock) from the 1960s to 1980s. Some of the more specific topics I enjoy are: Castrati and gender in early modern opera, early modern libertine circles' patronage of music, voice and timbre, and "queer" modes of listening.
